Along with Producing Local Wedding Shows, Cavanaugh’s has Many Resources for You, the Parents of the Bride or Groom, to Help You AND Your Children Through the Monumental Task of Planning a Wedding!
STEP ONE: Make your own wedding workbook for Free with our printable worksheets (link is below) if you don’t already have one. Your children will probably do almost everything online, however, these worksheets are a great place to start and physically see everything involved with planning.
Although the worksheets are Cavanaugh’s Copyright, feel free to print as many copies as you would like for your own personal use! You can print at home, or have a print shop do it. A 3 hole punch and 3 ring binder (Dollar Store) will allow you to create your own books.

Communication & Expectations

Starting the Process
Communication is Key! To be a supportive and effective parent of the bride or groom, communicate with them to understand their vision and their desired level of your involvement in the planning process. Some parents are very hands on, while others are comfortable letting the couple make most of the decisions.
The Most Important Thing in Planning is the Wedding Budget. (4 Budget Pages in Worksheets). What can/do your children expect from you financially? Traditionally the Bride’s family pays for most of the wedding, as noted in the Wedding Budget Worksheets. However, pretty much anything goes today, with many couples pitching in to help pay for their own wedding.
Preliminary Guest List. The number of guests, combined with the budget will give you much needed parameters when choosing a Wedding Venue.
Also, many venues require you to hire a Wedding Planner, or at the very least, a Day Of Planner. Be sure to ask that question when looking at venues. If needed, the cost of a planner will vary greatly depending on the amount of involvement your planner will have.
Having the budget and number of guests will help you narrow down your initial choices while saving you much time when looking for a venue.
Type of Venue is the next decision. Do they want a Barn Wedding or Hotel Wedding (or anything in between)? Seeing many venues all in one place at Cavanaugh’s Wedding Shows is a great way to save time, and get a feel for which direction they may want to go. #1 quote from past Wedding Show attendees, Favorite Part: “Spending time with my Mom”!

Other Details You can Help With
1. Guest List/Addresses – You as the parent, will be instrumental in gathering addresses of family members and family friends. You may have to assist in adding/cutting guests as the venue and budget unfold.
2. Family Traditions – Weddings are the perfect setting for celebrating family traditions. Whether through food, location, dress, dance, vows, etc., traditions should be celebrated if the couple is in agreement.
